James Hill

James Hill

Biography

From humble beginnings as a YouTube ‘vlogger’ (Video blogger), James Hill has moved to presenting, establishing himself in 2009/10 as one of three key faces of teen brand BBC Switch. Presenting online and on TV for Switch’s chaotic and energetic flagship show, The 5.19 Show, James quickly learned to carry a live online show complete with guests and live performances, and where almost anything could (and occasionally did) go wrong. Over the summer James was given the role of ‘roving reporter’ working at festivals, interviewing bands and talking to crowds.

After impressing the bosses, James bagged the job of co-hosting the more subdued, but still wryly fun continuity links, broadcast on Saturday afternoons on BBC 2 for the ‘Switch Zone’. As well as BBC Switch, James has an excellent working relationship with Hat Trick Productions, who granted the first time presenter a 12 month development deal in late 2009. This led to the shooting of several pilots and the commissioning of online interactive video ‘Jimmy vs. The Penguin of Doom’ by BBC Switch, and the ‘BBC Switch YouTube Takeover’, which was hosted by James.

James has also recently presented on the red carpet for Burberry during fashion week, and as the main host of LeeFest music festival. He has a popular weekly online radio show specializing in new music and a comedy podcast.

James is 21, originally from Birmingham, and has a first class honours degree in history from the University of York. While at uni James hosted and produced an award winning student radio show. He also plays bass (badly) in a band.
