ITM are pleased to announce we will be looking after the commercial interests of Paul Doran – Jones.
The rich potential of Paul Doran-Jones was recognised when won his first cap against Argentina in the autumn of 2009 after being initially brought into the England training squad for the match as cover for Bath’s David Wilson, who suffered a shoulder injury against Australia in the opening game of the Investec Challenge Series.
He has since appeared in the non-cap game against the Barbarians last May and also started the summer tour games against Australian Barbarians at Gosford and New Zealand Maori in Napier.
Paul was recruited by Gloucester from London Welsh in May 2009 on a two-year contract by Dean Ryan, then the club’s head coach, and had made nine appearances when joining up with England.
Two were off the bench against Newport Gwent Dragons and Biarritz Olympique in the Heineken Cup, five in the Premiership, including three starts, one in the midweek game against an Australia XV and the other in the LV=Cup.
At that point, his Premiership experience had spanned only 266 minutes but his ability to pack down on either side of the scrum already pointed to his value.
Enfield-born, he was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire and appeared for England Schools 18 Group before representing Ireland in the Under 19 Six Nations and the Under 21 World Cup.
His club career began at Dublin-based Lansdowne while he was studying at University College, Dublin and he had a spell with King Country, the province where England Team Manager Martin Johnson had played in his formative years and to which Colin Meads, the legendary All Black belonged.
Paul went on to spend four years with Leinster before moving to London Welsh in 2007 and helped London Wasps to win the Guinness A League the following year.
His switch to Gloucester opened new horizons. He was recruited as a probable understudy to New Zealander Greg Somerville, following the departure of Italy prop Carlos Nieto to Saracens but quickly made his mark. His fortieth appearance was when the Cherry and Whites won 18-16 at Northampton in the Aviva Premiership at the end of February. He scored a maiden Premiership try the following month against Bath eight days before winning the second of his three caps so far against Scotland.
Paul has now moved on from Gloucester where he will be joining Northampton Saints where he will look to be pushing for silverware on all fronts.
