Charlie Gilkes is a serial young entrepreneur.
As soon as Charlie left school, he started organising some of the hottest club nights and parties in London. He’s worked with pretty much every top club and has arranged many high profile events, including Naomi Campbell’s 35th Birthday in Cannes and the recent Boodles Boxing Ball, which attracted a great deal of media attention. He’s also worked on the marketing for several brands including Jaeger-Le Coultre, U’Luvka Vodka, Abbey Well Water and the luxury jewellers: Boodles, and he acts as a consultant for The Montpelier Bar/Hotel and Restaurant Group. In between all this he also achieved a 2:1 MA in Politics from The University of Edinburgh.
In 2006, at the age of just 22 and whilst still at University he started the hugely successful Sloane Square nightclub Kitts, with business partner Duncan Stirling. In its first year of being open it’s attracted a huge amount of publicity, playing host to a number of high profile events, such as Noel Gallagher’s 40th Birthday and the end of tour parties for Girls Aloud, Klaxons and Stereophonics. Recent visitors include Orlando Bloom, David Walliams, Kristen Scott Thomas, Chelsea Clinton, and Kevin Spacey.
In the last few months Charlie has been featured in GQ, The London Paper, The Mail on Sunday, The Evening Standard and Evening Standard Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine and The Independent on Sunday, which listed him as one of the 3 most successful nightlife entrepreneurs in London along with Nick Jones and Amy Sacco. The Evening Standard named Charlie as one of the 1000 Most Influential People in London in their annual list (published in October 2008).
2009 has seen the launch of Charlie’s latest venture; Barts. It is a highly original ‘speakeasy’ bar on Sloane Avenue, which has won critical acclaim and an impressive high profile following. Charlie is busy working on launching a new exciting venture at the end of the year.
