Peaches Geldof

Peaches Geldof

Biography

Everyone seems to have an opinion about Peaches Geldof – born into fame, judged by the press, courted by the fashion world and idolized by teenage girls. A writer since the age of 14 (she had her first column in the telegraph in 2002), a broadcaster by 15 and a fashion designer by 18 – there seems to be no end to Peaches creative talents.  But what is she really about? What makes her tick? And what’s next on her list of accomplishments?

The fascination in Peaches Geldof shows no signs of dying down. From style pages to gossip columns, she’s rarely out of the press - something she’s learnt to both love and hate - “The most ludicrous story I’ve read about myself was when I was fifteen,” she laughs, “The front page of the Daily Star said I’d joined a lesbian sex cult with lesbians from another planet.” She’s learnt from her mistakes too - “If you’re being chased down the street by the paparazzi don’t suddenly decide to climb a fence in Hyde Park!” – because if you do, and you’re as famous as Peaches, it will end up as a double page spread in the gossip magazines.

Thrust into the limelight as a result of famous parents – Peaches chose to embrace her opportunities rather than shun them. She honed her talents from an early age - authoring documentaries for Sky 1 ‘Peaches Geldof: Teenage Mind’ and ‘Peaches Geldof: Teen America’ followed soon after by a one hour special for Channel 4: ‘Beginners Guide to Islam’.
Peaches love of music has led to gigs hosting shows such as T4’s backstage coverage for the NME Awards 2007, the itunes festival for ITV2 plus live audience events such as AOL’s Winter Warmer - broadcast via live streaming. Her wit and wry take on the world of celebrity have also made her a popular guest on shows such as Channel 4’s ‘8 out of 10 cats’ and a week spent hosting ‘Big Brother’s Big Mouth’.

A maverick and a style chameleon, there’s barely a look or a hairstyle Peaches hasn’t tried – “I like to be different characters with how I look,” she admits, “I don’t ever want to get stuck in a style rut. Most people might change their dress but I change the whole way I look.” Why? “Because it’s fun, I’m young and I can get away with it!”

Peaches innate sense of style garnered associations with numerous fashion brands – including design duo Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker for PPQ with whom she collaborated with on her own range of clothes. Peaches has also completed designs for her second jewellery collection for the ethical accessories company MADE. Combining her fashion nouse with her TV talent, in September, 2009 Peaches turned her hand to reporting for GMTV on London Fashion Week (“I love that whole crew. I just wanted to meet Lorraine Kelly really!” she remembers) as well as co-hosting the Clothes Show Live and working alongside Mary Portas for her Charity Shop campaign. A model and a muse – Peaches has starred in a number of high profile ad campaigns and fashion shoots including Agent Provocateur, The Sunday Times Style, Pop, I:D and is the current face of Ultimo’s Miss Ultimo brand.

Her journalism career has also flourished over the years – Peaches presently writes a column for New York based magazine Nylon, has co-edited her own magazine ‘Disappear Here’ (the launch of which was filmed for MTV) and was recently a columnist for ES Magazine.

Peaches obsessions span from the paranormal to the casualties of modern day celebrity. “I would love to interview someone like Kerry Katona,” she enthuses, “She fascinates me. Max Clifford would have to be in the room too, along with Mark Croft watching in the corner like a hawk.” She also gets extremely animated about, “People who are weird!” and qualifies, “I love people who have loads of surgery – I could stare at them for hours. Anyone a bit creepy will do me. I’d love to do a show like Louis Theroux where I go and meet the weird and the wonderful.”

So what are the biggest misconceptions about Ms Geldof? “I think because my father has money, people think that I’m spoilt,” says Peaches, “But the thing is, he has never given me any! He made a big, big deal about the fact that I should make my own and I used to have resentment issues about it – but now I’m really happy because I’ve always earned my own.” Sir Bob might have instilled a strong sense of self worth in his daughter, but she jokes his frugal ways haven’t exactly rubbed off. “One thing I haven’t learnt is to be good with my money,” she smiles before reasoning, “I spend all I’ve earned but at the same time I do that with a joy instead of a flippancy that I would get from being spoilt.”

With friends like Mischa Barton, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton (“They’re nice girls but intense”) Peaches could easily use her connections to be in A list interview heaven. But that’s not what she’s about – “I want to challenge myself,” she insists, “I don’t care if I’m living in a mountain, as long as I’m doing things that I think are fun.” So what’s next? “Possibly a book. And I would like to research and develop some weird documentaries.”

Peaches has recently set up camp in LA (she’s currently splitting her time between there and London) where she’s taking acting classes. Why? “I keep getting offered acting jobs and need to know what I’m doing!” Looks like Hollywood is beckoning too…
